Profile
Tonie Cox, an industrial designer, got her start as a fashion and product photographer. She has blended her influences, the flowing, sensuous lines of fabric, the interplay of light of shadows, and the elegant structures of nature to create a unique lineof home furnishings. Tonie believes that good design should not be the sole privilege of the elite. Good design should democratic design, not just for the wealthy, but for everyone. This relates to the Bauhaus ideal of creating beauty in everyday objects. By making common items beautiful, design is brought into daily life and sub-consciously becomes a part of the built environment much like the inherent beauty of the natural environment Her studio, Design Democracy, was created to offer a range of home furnishings - from small decorative pieces to gallery furniture, that reflect both her style and philosophy. Education: BA in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University MA in Industrial Design from North Carolina State University, School of Design Design Beginnings: Fashion and product photography, some graphic design Business: Design Democracy, a home furnishings design firm.

Design description
Like a standard cafetera (moka pot) but with a twist… it whistles. Rather than standing over the stove waiting for coffee to brew, the whistling cafetera tells you when it is done by releasing a whistling burst of steam. No more burned coffee or wastedtime. The wide base offers greater stability and faster heating.
